COLUMBIA, Md - The Variform, Velux and Tenneco sponsored entry of the B&B Racing Team added a crew chief and tuner to their fuel funny car operation. Team owner and driver Bob Weickgenannt announced that Keith Platt has joined the team as co-crew chief with Dennis Whitestone. "Our objective is to speed up the preparation of the car. Keith's expertise will enable us to complete our tasks more efficiently."

Platt is a "young veteran" of the NHRA and IHRA fuel ranks. He has spent the last six years tuning for various fuel teams. During the '95 and '96 seasons, Platt owned and tuned his own fuel funny car operation driven by his brother Brad. Last season was spent tuning John Mitchell's Montana Express Top Fuel dragster and he spent the first part of the '98 season with the Peek Brothers Top Fuel dragster.

B&B is looking forward to great things with the addition of Platt to the team. "Our car is close to becoming a consistent qualifier", says Weickgenannt. "We know we've got the equipment, and now we feel we have the players in place to step to the next level of performance. " In addition to Platt, B&B also added veteran mechanic Scott Black to the team to work on the cylinder heads.

The next event for the team is the Pontiac Excitement Nationals at National Trails Raceway in Columbus, Oh on June 11 - 14.
