COMMERCE, Ga. (Saturday May 5) - Mark Whisnant, driver of the PiranaZ Chevrolet S-10 Pro Stock Truck will enter eliminations at the 21st Annual Advance Auto Parts NHRA Nationals occupying the 13th spot on the eliminations ladder.

Whisnant was not qualified when he arrived at the Atlanta Dragway this morning. He and his PiranaZ team knew that to race on Sunday they had to make their best effort of the weekend in the morning session.

"The pressure was on for us to make it into the show this morning." Said Whisnant of Stockbridge, Ga. "We knew that we had to get I on that run, or sit out the rest of the weekend.

"It was gut-check time. We knew we had to suck it up and get with the program. Kevin (Horst) made a good call on the tune-up, and the result is that we are racing on Sunday, and that's just what we wanted to do.

When eliminations get under way on Sunday morning, Whisnant will be paired against Texas racer Don Smith.

"It is going to be anyone's race on Sunday. We have raced here for a lot of years and we know that conditions will change so often on raceday that making a prediction now is impossible.

"Tomorrow will be a crew chiefs race. Between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM this track is going to go back and forth. So the team and the crew chief that can adjust to the changing temperature and track conditions will end up in the winner's circle Sunday night.

"I know I have one of the best crew chiefs out there. We will have to see who we line up against and take it on a round by round basis. Hopefully with some good calls and a little luck we can win this race here at our home track.

Eliminations at the 21st Annual Advance Auto Parts NHRA Southern Nationals will begin at 11:00 AM EST on Sunday May 6.
