The final day of qualifying for Pro Stock ended with a bang. A total of 33 drivers started the weekend wanting to be among the quick sixteen.
Troy Coughlin started the day sitting in the No. 10 qualifying position. During the third session Troy hurt an engine and did not improve. He fell to the No. 15 spot.
"At about 800' I felt some vibration and the power went away," explained Troy. "We will be ready to improve during the final session with a new bullet."
In the third session Jeg improved. He ran a 6.924 at 198.26 mph and made the second quickest run of the session. Jeg fell one spot to land in the No. 3 position.
"We are continuing to make great runs in the heat of the day," noted Jeg. "We are just fine tuning for raceday and picking up additional data to help us when it counts."
The team changed engines in Troy car between qualifying sessions. Troy made a huge move forward in the final qualifying session. He ran 6.946 at 198.38 mph and moved from the No 15 spot up to the No 7 position. Troy will have lane choice over Allen Johnson in round one.
"We really needed that," said Troy. "I believe that lane choice will play a big part tomorrow. Making such a strong run with this new engine really shows our strength going into raceday."
Jeg did not improve during the final session and will start from the No. 3 spot. Jeg will face off against Richie Stevens in the first round and will have lane choice.
"We will just focus on doing our job as a team and the rest will take care of itself," commented Jeg.
