Team Jeg's is looking forward to Atlanta.
Team Jeg's drivers Jeg and Troy Coughlin are eagerly anticipating a return to the Atlanta Dragway. Both drivers have had some success at the track with an event win by Jeg Coughlin in 2000. Both Jeg and Troy enter the Atlanta race coming off strong performances in Bristol, Tenn. which were highlighted by Troy's number one qualifying effort.
"Bristol was a good race for us," commented Troy. "We had a very competitive car all weekend and there is no reason to believe that we can't carry that momentum into Atlanta. It's hard enough just to make the show in Pro Stock, so to have Jeg and I both qualified in the top half of the field at that race was a great accomplishment. Our performance has continued to improve with every race this season. Hopefully we can take it to another level in Atlanta and put one of our Jeg's Mail Order Chevrolet Cavaliers in the winner's circle."
The 2000 event and series champion Jeg Coughlin is equally enthusiastic about a return to the Atlanta Dragway. Jeg was bumped out of the top ten point standings after Bristol and is looking for a good outing in Atlanta to spring back into the POWERade Pro Stock Championship chase.
"Atlanta has been a pretty good track for Team Jeg's," said Jeg. "There are plenty of great Pro Stock fans in the Atlanta area that make the race such an exciting event for us. We are really excited about Coca Cola's involvement in the sport with the POWERade brand and we feel that they will be a great partner as we work together to take NHRA drag racing to the next level. Hopefully we can put the yellow and black in the winner's circle in their back yard."
Atlanta also marks the return of John and Mike Coughlin to the national event circuit. John will compete in Super Comp and Mike will compete in Super Comp and Super Gas. Their last national event was the Mac Tools Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida.
"We are really looking forward to racing in Atlanta," commented John. "We really enjoy racing as a family. Mike and I are racing at both the divisional and national levels, so we don't always get the chance to run at the same races as Troy and Jeg. When we get the chance to compete at the same events, it makes for a great weekend of racing."
"We have been pretty busy back at the Team Jeg's Research and Development Center working on our sportsman program," said Mike. "The majority of the team's focus has been directed towards our in-house engine program for our Pro Stock machines. During that time, John and I have had the opportunity to focus on our Super Comp and Super Gas entries. We are both really excited to get back to racing in Atlanta and we are anticipating a great weekend."
Lucas Oil Sportsman Series qualifying begins at the Atlanta Dragway on Thursday, May 2. Pro Stock qualifying for the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series will begin on Friday, May 3 with two qualifying sessions.
