COMMERCE, Ga. (Sunday May 6) - Today at the 21st Annual Advance Auto Parts NHRA Southern Nationals in Atlanta, Ga., Greg Stanfield, driver of the DBP Enterprises Chevy S-10 Pro Stock Truck advanced all the way to the semi-finals before falling to Jeff Gracia.
"Jeff had lane choice going into the semi's, but that didn't really matter to me," said Stanfield of Bossier City, La. "I didn't think it mattered all that much. What mattered was him leaving on me. I didn't count on that.
When the lights came down Gracia took the advantage at the line by virtue of his .414 light to Stanfield's .432. Gracia's slight advantage was enough to for him to take the victory at the top end. Gracia ran a 7.545 / 179.78 mph to Stanfield's quicker 7.539 / 179.90 mph.
"I thought I was going to catch him on the top end, but I didn't have enough. I'm not going to let that happen again.
"Between now and Topeka we are going to go home and do some testing. We are going to work on getting down these hot racetracks, because the hot weather is here to stay. We are not going to be racing on cool tracks again until fall, so we better get used to it."
Team Owner and second driver, Bart Price, was defeated in the first round of competition by Jeff Gracia. Gracia ran a 7.618 / 178.19 mph to a shutting off Price who ran a 9.086 / 107.69 mph.
"I got real loose and had to shut it off," said Price. "I left okay, but I got out there a ways and started to spin the tires. When the truck started to go toward the centerline, I decided it was time to get out of it."
The next stop on the Pro Stock Truck schedule will be the 13th Annual Advance Auto Parts NHRA Nationals in Topeka, Kan. May 24-27.
