Stivers ready to walk the talk in Commerce
COMMERCE, Ga. (May 13, 2010) - Sometimes Pro Mod racer Rick Stivers has a lot to say about things; in fact, he's been known to be quite a good storyteller. Sometimes, however, actions must speak, and Stivers is prepared to walk the talk this weekend as the NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Drag Racing Series visits Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Ga.
Traveling less than 400 miles to the south from his home in Lexington, Ky., Stivers is anxious to get his Trane-backed 2006 Dodge Stratus back onto the quarter-mile. After the last GSA Pro Mod event in St. Louis, Stivers and the Brad Anderson Engineering team stayed over to test, and the Ky. native said the results were very positive.
"Brad [Anderson, car owner and crew chief] got us right back to where we belong, running what would be 5.90's or better with each hit. The team really does a great job getting things together, and I'm sure we'll have an awesome racecar when we hit the track on Friday," Stivers said.
"It's been a difficult year for me so far, with missing the first race because of surgery and then trying to recover enough to drive in Houston and St. Louis. I'm finally feeling better and my body is almost completely healed. Mentally, I'm ready to put down some good numbers and go rounds, so we'll see what the track can hold," he said.
In the past, the Atlanta track has had one lane that seemed to provide better traction than the other, making lane choice key at the Commerce track.
"I know we've got to get in the top half in qualifying so we have as many options as possible when eliminations come around - and that's what I'm completely focused on. Enough talk - I just want to race.
"This Trane is ready to roll," he added.
