Stivers: Consistently Quick in Commerce, sits provisional No. 4

COMMERCE, Ga. (May 14, 2010) - He knew it would happen, he said it would happen, and now it IS happening. Lexington, Ky.-native Rick Stivers was the only NRHA Get Screened America Pro Mod driver to run both of today's qualifying runs in the five-second zone, earning him the No. 4 spot pending one more qualifier tomorrow in the NHRA Southern Nationals outside Atlanta.

Behind the wheel of his Trane-backed 2006 Dodge Stratus, Stivers belted out a 5.986-second shot at 238.76 mph, and backed it up a few hours later with a 5.976 at 240.98. He sits just 4-thousandths of a second behind his teammate, Jay Payne, and a little over 5-hundredths behind the current No. 1 Mike Janis who posted a 5.919.

"We've got us a bracket car, plain and simple," Stivers said. "Despite a little hiccup at the end of that first pass, this BAE [Brad Anderson Enterprises] team was able to get this hotrod in the fives for both runs today. This team is absolutely amazing, and Brad definitely knows how to make a car go fast.

"It's even better news for us, because now we know that we can be quick in both lanes - we've got the data. I think our time will give us lane choice in eliminations, but that extra boost of confidence is always good for the team as they set the car up.

"We've got one more shot tomorrow, and I'm guessing Brad is going to give it all he's got to try and move us up, but I'm confident that we'll be at or near the top come eliminations tomorrow evening," Stivers said.
