Atlanta, Ga. (May 6) - Racing in front of the hometown crowd is a thrill that Mark Whisnant, driver of the RW Performance Truck, missed out on last year. This year at the 20th Annual Advance Auto Parts NHRA Southern Nationals, Whisnant will take the 16th position on the Pro Stock Truck eliminations ladder and try and win one for the home-team.

It was in the third round of qualifying that Whisnant ran a 7.598 / 177.14 mph which placed him in the 16th slot on the eliminations ladder. In Round 1 of eliminations Whisnant will square off against Winston Champion Bob Panella.

"This is the second time this year we have had Panella in Round 1," said Whisnant. "Panella is running good, but our truck is starting to come around.

"We have worked hard on our truck in preparation for this race. In qualifying we kept getting better. We picked it up a little each round. That is the direction we want to go, but we are not going that way quick enough.

"I would sure like to make a good showing here tomorrow. We have a big group of friends, family and employees here this weekend supporting us. I would like to go some rounds tomorrow to pay them back for all their confidence in the team and I .

"Tomorrow what I need is a little luck. Panella has us covered, but if I can cut a good light and catch him sleeping, we can get him. Hey stranger things have been known to happen.

Eliminations at the 20th Annual Advance Auto Parts NHRA Southern National in Atlanta, Ga. begin at 10:30 AM EST, Sunday May 7.
