MCCLENATHAN RUNS STRONG IN ATLANTA; QUALIFIES FOURTH

COMMERCE, Ga. (May 15, 2010) - Cory McClenathan continues to impress in the 2010 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series by grabbing the No. 4 qualifying spot at the 30th annual NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway.

The driver of the FRAM Top Fuel Dragster pulled out a string of solid passes to earn four qualifying bonus points which, ironically, did not include the Friday evening run under cooler conditions at a track that was seeing 85-plus-degree ambient temperatures and a 128-degree track during the day.

His quickest pass of 3.924 seconds at 308.35 mph came right out of the box in the first session on Friday, good for No. 2, which was followed by a 4.534/166.76 that night (No. 3). Today’s attempts resulted in a 3.955/297.75 (No. 4) and a 3.953/299.86, which was the second quickest of that round.

"We're happy with it, actually," said McClenathan, who’s won three times at Atlanta Dragway. "Obviously, we would like to be No. 1 qualifier everywhere we go, but at the same time it seems that the No. 1 qualifier doesn't always win the race." McClenathan has already snagged three No. 1 qualifiers this season.

"We'll take what we got right now and go with it on Sunday. It's a good hot, race-day tune-up, and I think that's what we were going for that last run. We're happy with that."

McClenathan faces Shawn Langdon in the opening round of Sunday's eliminations.
