COMMERCE, Ga. (May 4) - Rodger Brogdon, driver of the CertainTeed Roofing Products Chevy S-10, was unhurt today at the 21st Annual Advance Auto Parts NHRA Southern Nationals in Atlanta, Ga., when the brakes failed on this Pro Stock Truck.

A malfunction in the line lock of Brogdon's S-10 caused the brake switch to short out sending him into the left lane guardrail. Brogdon emerged from his truck on the top end, shaken but unhurt. Brogdon talked about his wild ride.

"When I rolled into the water box I knew there was something wrong with the line lock," said Brogdon of Tomball, Texas. "It wasn't working when I started the truck, but then it was working when I rolled into the water box. I knew there was something wrong, but I went ahead and made the run.

"The problem started when I went through the lights on the top end. What we determined is that the line lock shorted out the brake switch and what it did was it left the front brakes applied and the rear brakes did not work at all. That sent me sliding around and into Sam's (Tompkins) lane. I tried to correct and ended up hitting the wall.

"Really, the truck doesn't look all that bad. The chassis doesn't seem to be hurt. The nose is really bent up; that can be fixed.

"We are going to check out the chassis and make sure it is all right. If it is in good shape we are going to try and borrow a nose and make the tomorrow's sessions. We are going to get with all the guys we know here and see if we can get it back out there.

"It is a shame because we were on a good pass. We looked at the computer and found that we could have been eight or nine hundredths better. So we would really like to get back out there and try to get this CertainTeed Chevy S-10 qualified.

"It looks like we have a long night ahead of us. If we don't get it back out here tomorrow, you know we will be in Topeka to give it another shot."

Qualifying continues on Saturday May 5, with Eliminations taking place on Sunday May 6 at 11:00 AM EST.
