COMMERCE, Ga. - Rodger Brogdon, driver of the CertainTeed Roofing Products Chevrolet S-10 Pro Stock Truck, has done his homework in preparation for the 21st Annual Advance Auto Parts NHRA Southern Nationals May 3-6 in Atlanta, Ga.

"I think Atlanta will be a good race for us," said Brogdon of Tomball, Texas. "Between the numbers we have been running in testing and the extra effort my guys have been giving at the shop, I don't think it would be out of line to say that I believe we can qualify and go some rounds on Sunday with this CertainTeed Chevy S-10.

Since the last race in Las Vegas, Brogdon reports that he and his team have spent a significant amount of time at the racetrack testing their truck.

"Boy have we ever been testing. Since Las Vegas, we have been to the racetrack testing six times. We have tested the truck so much we have worn out one of our motors. The good news is that we found something last week that we believe will really pick us up when we get to Atlanta.

"We have spent a lot of time working on getting this truck right. Not only at the racetrack, but also at the shop. My guys have really been putting in the extra effort, and have done their homework in an effort to get this truck set up and running right. We have the horsepower, now we just need to get the truck to drive down the track.

"When we started out this season, we knew we would not unload off the trailer and start qualifying. We didn't think we would get there over night. We knew that it would take some time to get our ducks in a row.

"Our goal for this 2001 season was to qualify at half of the races, which was a realistic goal for us. But I think with the way the truck is performing now, that we may be able to do better than that.

"I am very encouraged by our test results. The truck is starting to come together quicker than we had hoped, and that makes me excited to get to Atlanta.

"Our goal for Atlanta is to get this truck qualified. I will feel good if we can get that done. Then on race day, we will just have to take it one round at a time. I feel good about our chances in Atlanta this weekend."

Qualifying at the 21st Annual Advance Auto Parts NHRA Southern Nationals begins on Friday May 4, and continues on Saturday May 5. Eliminations get under way at 11:00 AM EST on Sunday May 6.
