Arana Jr. returns to his usual perch atop Pro Stock Motorcycle field at St. Louis

Arana Jr.'s best lap of 6.826 seconds at 195.19 mph was slightly better than his dad (a 6.827 at 196.56 from Hector Arana Sr.) and a track record. However Arana Jr. said while making crushing runs on Friday and Saturday are great, success on Sunday is the ultimate goal of the whole operation.

"I've been low of the round each time today," Arana Jr. said. "It's really great but the most important thing is to be consistent and be that good on race day. We're going to work on getting rid of all those silly mistakes so we can go rounds."

Arana Jr. had low ET in the first round as well with a 6.854 at 192.60 mph.

It's the first time in his career that Arana Jr. has raced in St. Louis and he said the experience is taking him back to his rookie season.

"It's what I did every race last year as a rookie," he said. "It's exciting to have a different layout and track compound. It gives you more notes, more knowledge to take to other places and a chance to find a better tune-up for the bike."

The race is a culmination of a busy week for the Lucas Oil team after a dash from Texas to Indiana to work in the shop before setting off for Gateway.

"We were able to go home after Dallas," Arana Jr. said. "We got another engine put together but we didn't leave to come here until after midnight on Wednesday, so we could get to the track on Thursday to get parked and set up."
