Brown was ranked No. 1 heading to Saturday's fourth and final session but fell to third going into eliminations, which begin at 11 a.m. (PST). Spencer Massey qualified fifth and Tony Schumacher ranks 10th.

Despite a violent explosion and fire on Capps' second run Friday night, the NAPA team led by crew chief Rahn Tobler completed the run in 4.014 seconds at a slowing 304.67 mph after the explosion occurred about 200 feet from the finish line. John Collins, the NAPA team's assistant crew chief, said the run was almost certainly going to reach into the 3-second range.

Capps ended qualifying ranked fifth followed by DSR teammates Jack Beckman No. 8, Tommy Johnson Jr. No. 9 and Matt Hagan No. 10.
