Johnson Posts Mopar Dodge Avenger No. 7 in Friday Qualifying at Vegas
Las Vegas, Nev. (April 1, 2011) – Mopar® Dodge Avenger NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson motored to the provisional No. 7 spot after two qualifying sessions today at the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Under the hottest track conditions of the year to date (132 degree track temperatures in the second Pro Stock qualifying round) Johnson recorded his best pass of the day in his first effort, a 6.747-second elapsed time at 205.19 mph. In his second attempt Johnson’s Mopar Dodge shook the tires shortly after leaving the line, resulting in a 13.378/62.93 run.
“It wasn’t a bad first run, but we still left quite a bit on the table,” said Johnson, who qualified No. 1 at the fall 2010 Vegas event. “The second run obviously wasn’t good. We know the J&J Racing team can perform better than we did today. Hopefully we can make something good happen tomorrow in our Mopar Dodge."
In regards to the scorching track temps, Johnson said, “Everyone else is doing good on (the track), so we have to learn how to do good on it. The track is okay, we just have to get our car down it correctly. The first run tomorrow will probably offer the same conditions as the first run today, so that’s our best chance to move up the ladder. We just have to make a good run.”
Young Mopar-powered Dodge Avenger Pro Stock rookie Vincent Nobile continued to impress, seizing the preliminary No. 2 spot today with a 6.736/205.44 pass. Mopar-powered Dodge Avenger pilot V. Gaines enters the final two qualify sessions tomorrow needing to break into the Pro Stock field.
