GLENDORA, Calif. (Oct. 17, 2000) - The National Hot Rod Association competition department today released schedules for Pro Stock Motorcycle and Pro Stock Truck categories, as well as the schedule for special bonus events for the 2001 season.
Each of the two pro categories will compete in 14 of the 24 NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series events in 2001.
Pro Stock Truck competitors will once again open and close the season in Pomona, Calif., participating in the season-opening AutoZone Winternationals and the season-ending Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals. Pro Stock Motorcycle competitors will again open with the Mac Tools Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla. and close with the Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals at Pomona, Calif.
Events that will feature both categories will include the Gatornationals; the O'Reilly Nationals presented by Pennzoil in Houston; Advance Auto Parts Southern Nationals in Commerce, Ga.; Prestone Route 66 Nationals in Chicago; Pontiac Excitement Nationals presented by Summit Racing in Columbus, Ohio; Sears Craftsman Nationals in St. Louis; the TBA event; the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis; and the Auto Club NHRA Finals.
In addition, motorcycle competitors will compete at NHRA national events in Englishtown, N.J., Denver, Brainerd, Minn., Reading, Pa., and the Oct. national event in Las Vegas. Truck competitors also will race at the April event in Las Vegas, Topeka, Kan., the Sept. event in Chicago and Dallas' Fall Nationals.
The schedule for special bonus events for the 2001 season remains unchanged. The Holley Pro Stock Dominator Duel for Pro Stock will be contested on May 19 at the Matco Tools Spring SuperNationals in Englishtown, N.J. The Holley Pro Stock Dominator Duel for Pro Stock Truck will take place June 2 at Route 66 Raceway during the Prestone Route 66 Nationals. The U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis will continue to host two special events - the Budweiser Shootout (Funny Car) on Sept. 3 and the Holley Pro Stock Dominator Duel (Pro Stock Motorcycle) on Sept. 2. The Budweiser Shootout (Top Fuel) will once again be held at the Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals at Pomona (Calif.) Raceway on Nov. 10.
Headquartered in Glendora, Calif., the NHRA is the primary sanctioning body for the sport of drag racing in the United States. It presents 23 national events through its NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series. The NHRA has 85,000 racers and members nationwide and 144 member tracks. The NHRA-sanctioned sportsman and bracket racing series' provide competition opportunities for drivers of all levels. The NHRA develops the stars of tomorrow by offering the Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series, NHRA Summit Racing Series and the Street Legal Program. The NHRA also offers the Castrol GTX Jr. Drag Racing League for youths ages 8 to 17.
