Drivers share $50,000 in prize money from NASCAR Winston West Series Leader Bonus Program.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 17, 2002)-- Fifteen NASCAR Winston West Series drivers will share a combined $50,000 from the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., as prize money for this year's Winston West Leader Bonus program is distributed.
The prize money will be presented to the drivers on Saturday, July 27, prior to the start of the JaniKing 200 at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway.
Eric Norris of Dana Point, Calif., will receive $10,000 for leading the championship standings after the first five races of the season. Norris, who drives the JaniKing/Ultra Wheels Ford, had top-10 finishes in all five events-- including two victories.
Austin Cameron of El Cajon, Calif., will receive $6,000 for being second at the end of the first five races. Cameron also has two victories this year, as well as a third top-five finish in the NAPA Auto Parts/Martin Senour Chevrolet.
Third in the standings after the first five events is Kevin Richards, who will receive $4,000. Richards of Spokane, Wash., finished in the top 10 in all five events-- driving the Monaco Enterprises Chevrolet.
Mike Duncan of Lamont, Calif., will receive $3,750 for fourth place in the standings-- while fifth-place bonus money of $3,500 goes to series rookie Mike David of Modesto, Calif.
Receiving $3,250 for sixth in the standings is Brandon Ash of Umpqua, Ore. Greg Pursley of Newhall, Calif., will collect $3,000 for seventh, with Johnny Borneman of Ramona, Calif., netting $2,750 for eighth. Brett Thompson of Jerome, Idaho, will receive $2,500 for ninth; while $2,250 goes to 10th-place Scott Gaylord of Lakewood, Colo.
Drivers 11th through 15th will also share in the prize money. They include Tim Woods III, $2,000; Jack Sellers, $1,900; Bobby Hillis, $1,800; Jeff Jefferson, $1,700; and Scott Lynch, $1,600.
The prize money is part of the $350,000 point fund award from R.J. Reynolds Co.'s Winston brand. The bulk of the overall point fund will be distributed at the end of the season, based on the final championship standings.
