Points race concludes with Lynch as 2003 series champion

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 29, 2003) - Officials for the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing and California Speedway have cancelled the King Taco 200, NASCAR Grand National Division, Winston West Series event.

The event - which had been slated for Saturday, Nov. 1 - was cancelled due to the devastating wildfires that have ravaged areas of Southern California.

Cancellation of the race will bring the championship competition for the Winston West Series to a close for the 2003 season, with Scott Lynch winning the series championship. The 23-year-old competitor from Burley, Idaho, becomes just the second driver in the history of the series to win the title in his rookie year.

Meanwhile, the Winston West Series championship awards ceremony has been postponed from Sunday, Nov. 2, and will be rescheduled for a later date.
