Scott Gaylord (No. 00 Oliver Gravity
Separators/Denver Seminary Chevrolet) became the first driver this season to win the POWERade Power Move of the Race Award more than once.
Gaylord advanced the most positions at Irwindale - starting 14th and finishing fourth.
The team flew into the Ontario, California airport late on Friday night and was ready to go on Saturday morning. This was a one day event at the high banked fast half mile at Irwindaly Speedway in Irwindale, California.
Scott did a great job of manuveuring through traffic and keeping his nose clean early on while starting back in the pack. We were toward the back when the first caution came out, so we came in and topped off with fuel. Scott then went to work moving up through the pack. We had one scarey moment early. Scott got hit from behind in turn one, but held onto it. However, everything in the car went dead, like the kill switch had been hit.
He was dropping off the pace fast with the leaders coming. He finally got it going, but the leaders were close behind and we couldn't go down a lap that early. Luckily, a caution flew shortly thereafter and we got to catch back up to the pack. We pitted twice under a caution about halfway through the race and took 4 tires and fuel with a wedge adjustment. These were the best kind of pit stops - uneventful. Scott was a rocket after that caution and was running in 3rd place 150 laps into the 200 lap race. The tires then faded on him, but the top four cars still ran away from the rest of the field, with us bringing home our 3rd consecutive top 5 finish with a 4th place.
We moved closer to first but still 4th place in points for the year, 12 points out of thrid, 28 points out of second and 29 points out of first. The overall battle for the championship this year in the Winston West Series continues to be one of the closest in the history of the series.
Air time . The King Taco 200 at Irwindale Speedway is scheduled to air on the SPEED Channel cable network at 8 a.m. ET on Monday, Aug. 18.
Our next race is on the quarter mile track at Stockton, California on August 19, a bull ring that attracted a so many fans last year that they were turning them away.
