A Double Duty Weekend
Las Vegas -- On October 13 and 14, Brendan Gaughan and Orleans Racing wlll be set to do double duty, competing in both the NASCAR Winston West 24-Hour Fitness 150 and the Craftsman Truck Orleans 350 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
"This is a weekend I'm really looking forward too," says Gaughan, the reigning Winston West Champion and current point leader. "We will be running the #16 NAPA/Martin Senour Chevy Monte Carlo that brought us such good luck at Fontana earlier this year and our #62 NAPA/ Martin Senour Dodge Ram is brand new. We tested the truck at Texas World Speedway and the Monte Carlo at Las Vegas and both vehicles are definitely fast and right there. The Orleans crew has done themselves proud all the way around."
So far this season in Winston West, Gaughan has scored four wins (Fontana, Irwindale, Washington and Irwindale), earned the most prize money and led the most laps. "I currently hold a 25 point lead in the championship battle," says Gaughan, "and my plan is to extend that even further this weekend. The racing is going to be great. It should be an exciting battle all the way."
Extremely familiar with the Las Vegas track, Gaughan has logged numerous laps, both racing and teaching for the Richard Petty Driving Experience. "It is my hometown track and all my friends and family will be on hand this weekend," continues Gaughan with a smile. "Having them there just adds to my incentive to do well."
And not only is this top-ranked young star looking to do well in Winston West, he also wants to put his new NAPA Dodge Ram in the Number 1 spot. "We really were pleased with the results at our recent test," he continues. "It was better than we thought it would be and from the way everything ran, I feel we have a good shot at it."
The Orleans 350 will mark Gaughan's fifth appearance in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series this year. Taking a second (Texas), a third (Bakersfield) and a 10th (Chicago), this young man has already show his behind-the-wheel prowess. "I really like racing a truck," he says, "especially this new NAPA Dodge. I ran Dodge off-road trucks for a number of years and they were great. We scored a lot of wins. Now I want to do the same on the pavement."
A very determined young man, Gaughan will definitely be ready to tackle this double duty weekend come race time. Qualifying for the Winston West 24 Hour Fitness 150 gets underway on Saturday, October 13 at 10:40 AM and the race starts at 8:00 PM (PT). Bud Pole Qualifying for the Orleans 350 starts at 4:00 PM on Saturday, October 13 with racers taking the Green Flag on Sunday, October 14 at 3:00 PM.
