Goodyear collects short track wins around the country.

NASCAR Winston West Series:

Steve Portenga passed Winston Cup star Ken Schrader with eight laps remaining, then pulled away to win the Pontiac Wide Track Grand Prix 200 at California Speedway in Fontana, Calif.

Portenga said, "The Goodyear tires were awesome today."

Schrader finished second, 2.429 seconds behind the winner. Kevin Richards was third, Johnny Borneman took fourth and open wheel racing veteran Bryan Herta was fifth. It was Herta's first stock car race.

Borneman won the Bud Pole Award with a lap averaging 173.544 mph.

Portenga used the win to take the lead in the championship standings.
