Jefferson Looking for Road Course Redemption
NACHES, WASH. (July 29, 2008) Jeff Jefferson, driver of the MJ2 Racing Chevrolet on the NASCAR Camping World Series, has one road course win to his credit in three starts for the left/right circuits and that win came in the now defunct NASCAR Elite division where he won three consecutive championships (2003-2005). This weekend, Jefferson looks to reverse recent road course disappointments as the NASCAR camping World Series returns to Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah for a 125-mile event.
Road course success will be pivotal in the championship chase and success is exactly what Jefferson is expecting at MMP this weekend. "I have always done real well on road courses," Jefferson said. "It is about being smooth and hitting your marks along with keeping your tires on the asphalt. I like them and how the race is really in your own hands. We have a lot of really good road racers in our series, so in order to run up front you have to be pretty good."
After running in the top ten late in the race at Infineon raceway back in June, only to have a top finish stolen from him when another driver drove him off the course, Jefferson is focused on a top five finish. "We have put what happened at Infineon behind us," Jefferson said. "We purchased a new car from Kevin Harvick and have prepared it for this weekend. We have great equipment and we are ready to race."
"We have a good road course set up and we have a pit strategy that played out well at Infineon," Jefferson said. "We are planning on pretty much the same thing and hopefully that will put us in the top five late in the race. If we do that then I expect to have a good finish."
Visiting MMP for the first time will pose some unique challenges for the veteran driver. "We did not get a chance to test at Miller so we really have a lot of unknowns," Jefferson stated. "I have talked with a few of the guys that ran the event last year and they say hitting your marks if crucial. There is really no elevation change and the hot salt flat sun will make for a challenging event."
Jefferson drives a team car to Jim Warn and is sponsored by MJ2 Racing, Gran Prix Imports, and Leupold Optic. The car is powered by a Chevrolet NASCAR Spec Engine and sits atop a Hopkins chassis. Jefferson has 33 career NCWS starts with one win, 9 top five and 15 top ten finishes along with two Coors Light Pole Awards. Jefferson is currently 12th in the NCWS standings after nine races with two top five and three top ten finishes.
The NASCAR Camping World Series "125" at Miller motorsports Park is round ten of the 13-race NASCAR Camping World Series-West schedule for 2008. The race marks the 2nd straight year the NCWS has visited the world-class racing facility in Utah. 2008 is the 55th year of competition for the NASCAR Camping World Series-West.
