BOWLES RETURNS TO INFINEON RACEWAY SEEKING ANOTHER CAMPING WORLD WEST WIN
The current championship runner-up is the defending race winner on the 1.99-mile California track
SONOMA, CALIF. (June 18, 2009) -- Jason Bowles returns to familiar territory this coming Saturday (June 20th), when the NASCAR Camping World West Series travels to Infineon Raceway for Round Seven of the championship. The Californian, who grew up racing on road courses, enters the Bennett Lane Winery 200 presented by Supercuts as the defending race winner and second in the championship standings.
When the 13-race NASCAR Camping World West Series schedule was announced early in the year, one of the races Bowles and his Sunrise Ford crew highlighted was the annual trip to Infineon Raceway in Northern California. While Bowles has become a talented circle track racer over the past several years, as evidence by his multiple race wins on variety of ovals, his racing roots are firmly planted in road racing. With multiple race wins on the 1.99-mile undulating road course already on his resume, including the 2008 running of the NASCAR Camping World West Series, Round Seven offers the ideal opportunity for Bowles to once again steer his No. 6 Sunrise Ford/Oakley/Joe Gibbs Racing Oil/GS 610/RPM 12/Justice Brothers/Bell/Ford into victory lane. Certainly a vast majority of the fans on-hand will be keeping an eye on the former karting and formula car driver throughout the weekend, given Bowles is currently second in the championship fight with one win, three podium finishes and two pole positions.
"I'm really looking forward to the race this weekend," stated Bowles. "This race last year was our turning point and we have run well here the past two years. It is going to be a tough race down to the last lap, but I hope we can put the car back in victory lane, especially since this weekend we have the California Outdoor Heritage Group on the hood, an organization that supports science-based wildlife management and the preservation of our hunting rights in California. With several members of the organization attending the race that would make it even more special."
The two-day Bennett Lane Winery 200 presented by Supercuts event commences on Saturday, with Bowles and the rest of NASCAR Camping World West Series competitors taking to the Infineon Raceway road course for two morning practice sessions and an afternoon multi-car qualifying session. One day later, the green flag for Round Seven is scheduled to wave at 12:30 p.m. local time.
