Holmes Clinches NCWS Championship at All American Speedway
Antelope, CA (October 27, 2008) - Bill McAnally Racing driver Eric Holmes and the No. 20 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota Camry team clinched the 2008 Camping World Series West Championship title on Saturday night. Leading over 100- laps in the "Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts 150" presented by Thunder Valley Casino at All American Speedway in Roseville, CA, Holmes concluded his championship season with a fifth place finish in the season's final event.
With hundreds of NAPA customers, employees and store owners in attendance, Holmes was looking for his fifth victory in the No. 20 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota to end the racing season. With 10 lead changes between Holmes, BMR teammate Paulie Harraka and Jason Bowles - racing was bound to get heated.
Holmes and Harraka gave the packed house exciting fast paced door-to-door racing as they navigated through lap traffic, all while exchanging the lead numerous times. On lap 147, Holmes had lead over 100 laps and was preparing to take the checkers when he received contact from Bowles in turn 3. The contact would send Holmes around and bring out the ninth caution of the race. When the green flag waved for the final time, Holmes made a dash to the front and finished in fifth place.
"It was great racing with my young team mate Paulie Harraka. We battled back and forth the whole night" said Holmes. "It is truly amazing that a rookie can race you that clean and then be taken out on lap 148 by a series veteran" continued Holmes.
2008 gives car owner Bill McAnally and the NAPA Auto Parts team their fourth West Series title. Competing in only two full time seasons, Holmes has claimed the Camping World Series West title twice and together this season they've brought Toyota their first ever NASCAR Regional Stock Car Championship
Next up for Bill McAnally Racing will be the "Toyota All Star Showdown" January 23-24 2009 at the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale.
