Warn Learns Texas Two-Step the Hard Way
KYLE, TEXAS (April 19, 2008) Jim Warn of Aurora, OR driving his MJ2 Racing/Gran Prix Imports Chevrolet continues to earn his rookie stripes on the NASCAR Camping World Series circuit the hard way and Saturday night at Thunder Hill Raceway was no exception. After qualifying 14th for the All State Texas Thunder "150", Warn found that moving forward on the one-groove racetrack took a lot of patience and a whole lot more luck.
Warn held his own near the top half of the field through lap 100; eventually working his way up to the ninth position. After lap 100 things got interesting and many cars started to lose their forward momentum giving Warn the opportunity he had hope for.
Just as Warn was thinking he had clear sailing, several cars got together in turn one ahead of him, collecting half a dozen cars. Warn being one of them.
Warn Restarted 16th but steadily took what the track gave him and over the closing laps rebounded to finish12th in his third career NCWS start.
"This place is different," Warn said. "It was real hard to make any headway if you got stuck on the outside on the restarts and it seemed like on every restart we were on the outside. I would like to say we accomplished a lot but I am just glad to leave with the car in one piece (sort of) and completing all 150 laps."
Unofficially, the finish will move Warn up one position to 14th in the standings, 38 points out of the top ten. Warn drops to third in the Sunoco rookie standings one point behind Jeff Barkshire and Jason Paitson who are tied with 26 points each.
Warn and his MJ2 Racing team get a much needed three-week break before heading to Iowa Speedway for the running of the US Cellular 200 Sunday, May 18. The race is a special combination West/East NASCAR Camping World Series event.
