JASON BOWLES GETS 2009 CAMPING WORLD WEST SERIES SEASON UNDERWAY IN TEXAS
Californian focused on earning first Thunderhill Raceway podium finish this weekend
ONTARIO, CA (March 11, 2009) -- Championship contender Jason Bowles will kick-off his 2009 NASCAR Camping World West Series season this coming weekend on Saturday (March 14) as the opening race of the program hits the track at Thunderhill Raceway in Texas. After recording a third place result in the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown trophy race back in January coming off a runner-up finish the series title fight last year, the California standout enters the 2009 season-opener as one of the drivers to watch in the race for the championship crown.
Piloting the No. 6 Sunrise Ford/Oakley/Joe Gibbs Racing Oil/GS 610/RPM 12/Justice Brothers/Bell Ford, Bowles travels to Kyle, Texas, for the Allstate Texas Thunder 150 poised to once again make his mark in the NASCAR Camping World West Series. Competing against the best short-track NASCAR drivers on the West Coast, the Ontario, Calif., driver enters his third season of series competition, having won an impressive four races (Irwindale twice, Infineon Raceway and All American Speedway) last year while finishing on the podium seven times and starting from the pole position five times (Irwindale twice, All American Speedway, Infineon Raceway and Miller Motorsports Park).
For Bowles the fast 3/8-mile Thunderhill Raceway oval in Texas represents a track were he has enjoyed good results in the past, but failed to earn a place on the podium. In his 2007 rookie season, the former junior formula car standout started ninth and finished fifth. Last year, Bowles started a strong seventh, before eventually taking the checkered flag in sixth.
"I am really excited to get the season started after the way we finished last year and our run at the All-Star Showdown," stated Bowles. "I am looking forward to starting our quest for a championship title. The guys at Thunderhill Raceway do a great job every year and pack the stands, I am looking forward to putting on a good show for the fans and to try and bring home our first trophy of 2009."
The on-track action for Bowles at Thunderhill Raceway commences at 11 a.m. local time on March 14th with an hour-long practice session. Following another afternoon 30-minute practice session, the grid will be formed via single-car qualifying at 4:30 p.m. The green flag for Round One of the NASCAR Camping World West Series season-opener is scheduled to wave at 8:45 p.m.
