Lofton Remains Upbeat after Tough Weekend
Douglas County Speedway, a relatively flat half-mile track located in Roseburg, Oregon, encourages hard racing. The #66 Lofton Cattle/Cometic Gasket/Klotz/Eibach Ford Fusion was quick from the beginning and remained in the top-5 throughout the day's practice sessions. Qualifying brought Justin Lofton a track record of 15.126, and though short-lived, placed the Fusion on the outside of the front row for the night's 150-lap event.
The Bi-Mart Firecracker '150' kicked off Saturday following pre-race activities. Lofton took the lead in the first turn and didn't look back for the next 63 laps. As the race continued, however, the clutch began to fade. The early part of the race had that green flag look, but it wasn't enough to keep the #66 Lofton Cattle/Cometic Gasket/Klotz/Eibach Ford Fusion on track until the end. In a heads-up move, Lofton dropped back on the next restart and was able to race his way forward until a late caution flew. At that point the clutch failed completely, ending the night and a great run.
"It was a disappointing weekend," said Lofton. "We qualified the best we have all season, ran up front with a car set up for the long green-flag runs, but it just wasn't our night. The team keeps getting stronger every weekend, and our time is coming." The Bi-Mart Firecracker '150' will re- air July 11 at 11:30 AM (PST) on Speed Channel's Racing Across America.
The NASCAR Grand National Division West Series will head back to California for the KING TACO "200" at Irwindale Speedway for a mid-week July 4th celebration. Lofton expects to rebound with a strong team effort and better last year's top-ten finish at the half-mile oval. Live broadcast of the event will be at 8:00 PM (PST) on HDNet.
