Jefferson Looks to Get Back on Track at CNS
NACHES, WASH. (June 5, 2008) Jeff Jefferson, driver of the MJ2 Racing Chevrolet on the NASCAR Camping World Series, looks to get back on track in the Rocky Mountains as the NASCAR Camping World Series heads to the mile high city for the NAPA/Toyota "150" at Colorado National Speedway located just north of Denver.
Jefferson has had success at the 3/8-mile paved in posting top five finishes in past Southwest tour action but piloting the NCWS cars are a whole different animal. "We tested at Colorado on our way back from Iowa and the racing surface is a lot different than it was just two years ago," Jefferson said. "The track is a bit rougher and the outside groove is not as good as I remember, but that is what makes racing fun."
Jefferson is currently tied with Jason Patison for seventh in the NCWS-West standings after four races and looks to turn his racing fortune around at CNS this weekend. "I have always loved racing at Colorado," Jefferson stated. "The fans are some of the best and the track always produces great action. We have been working on our setup since Iowa and we feel we have something special for this weekend."
Through four races this season, Jefferson has claimed finishes of 11th, 3rd, 14th, and 10th. The race at CNS is pivotal in his pursuit of a fourth NASCAR championship and first in the NCWS. "Our team is new and it is taking time to get all the pieces in place but we are gaining on it every week," Jefferson said. "We are finally at the point where we are no longer building cars so we can better prepare for each race."
Preparation is the key to any successful race team and the MJ2 Racing team has focused their attention on qualifying. "To be honest with you, qualifying has hurt us this year," Jefferson stated. "We have been just enough off at each race which has caused us to start further back then we would like. We really need a good qualifying effort at CNS as starting track position will be critical in the outcome of the race."
Jefferson drives a team car to Jim Warn and is sponsored by MJ2 Racing, Gran Prix Imports, and Leupold Optic. The car is powered by a Chevrolet NASCAR Spec Engine and sits atop a Hopkins chassis. Jefferson has 28 career NCWS starts with one win, 8 top five and 14 top ten finishes along with two Coors Light Pole Awards.
The NAPA/Toyota "150" at Colorado National Speedway is round five of the 13-race NASCAR Camping World Series-West schedule for 2008. The race will be televised live on HDNet with the green flag slated for 7:40 pm (MT). SPEED Channel will have an enhanced reply of the race on June 24 at 1:00 PM (ET). 2008 is the 55th year of competition for the NASCAR Camping World Series-West.
