HOLMES HOME ON THE COLORADO RANGE, WINS NASCAR WEST RACE
ERIE, Colo. (June 9, 2008) -- Eric Holmes has won a NASCAR Camping World Series West championship and he's won lots of races during his stellar short track career. This year he aims to do both.
Driving for the powerhouse Bill McAnally Racing team, Holmes won the Toyota/Napa 150 at Colorado National Speedway, leading most of the race after starting on the pole. The win was Holmes' third of the season.
Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for both the CWS West and East series, as well as the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series north of the international border. The same line of bias-ply racing Eagles serves all three series.
Mike David finished second in the Colorado race, seven seconds behind the winner. Jason Bowles was third, followed by Colorado favorite Mike Gallegos and Canada's Daryl Harr. The top three finishers all live in California.
Holmes led the first 25 laps, then David took over for the next 25. Holmes led the final 100 laps. The 21 starters completed the race with only three caution periods, slowing the race for just 18 laps. The winner averaged 62.888 mph for the 150 laps around the 3/8-mile oval. Holmes averaged 80.737 mph during his top qualifying lap.
The drivers represented seven states, plus Harr's Canadian province.
David continues to lead the series standings, but Holmes is second. David's lead is 831-796.
