This event marks the second appearance ever for the Goody's Dash Series at the fast, 3/4th mile USA International Speedway and the second longest race on the 1998 schedule.
In the previous event here in 1997, Charles Powell III led the opening laps before David Hutto, Robert Huffman, Donnie Duchesne and hometown favorite, George Crenshaw all took turns at the point. Hutto later reestablished himself as the leader, passing Crenshaw on lap 111. Hutto went on to stretch his advantage and score his second win since returning to the Series just three events earlier. Christian Elder finished second in that inaugural event, followed by the 1997 Series champion, Mike Swaim Jr., Ricky Bryant and Bobby Dayton rounded out the top five.
Prior to the track opening for Friday's optional practice day, many of the teams, sponsors, media and local dignitaries will gather at the Huntington Hills Golf Course in Lakeland for the 2nd Annual Goody's Dash Series Golf Tournament that morning. Later in the day a Bar-B-Que lunch will be served at the speedway. Cost for the golf and lunch is $25 and includes greens fees, golf cart and lunch. Cost for just the Bar-B-Que lunch is $5.00. Robert Huffman has already clinched the 1998 championship with an incredible 8 wins and 17 top five finishes. Huffman has only finished one event this year outside the top five, a tenth at Caraway Speedway after leading 105 of the 125 laps there.
In the Rookie of the Year race, Donnie Apple now holds a ten point advantage over Chris Hall and a 19 point advantage over Eddie Kelley.
Rules Specific To This Track: Field-32 fastest qualifiers plus 4 provisionals. Tires-Goodyear 2376 (left side) and 2372 (right side) Carburetor will be sealed-Holes must be drilled in the carburetor stud, adapter plate bolt and intake bolt to seal carburetor.
