October 16, 2000 (Palmdale, Calif.) - Sean Woodside, driver of the REF Motorsports #4 Pontiac in the Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring, is ready to take the podium during this weekend's 24th Annual October Classic at Mesa Marin, where he is entered in the NASCAR Late Model, Southwest Series and NASCAR Winston West events.
Woodside is no stranger to Victory Circle at Mesa Marin. His most recent win at Bakersfield's famous 1/2-mile oval came in March of this year in the Southwest Series event, the FoodsCo 100. That win was REF Motorsports' first, and Woodside's first in the series.
He was one of Mesa Marin's strongest Late Model competitors prior to his Winston West career, and has won the October Classic Winston West event for the past three years in a row. Woodside also won the Bud Pole Award in both 1997 and 1998 in the October Classic events.
Given his history at Mesa Marin, Woodside feels good not only about the possibility of bringing REF Motorsports its second win for the 2000 season at Mesa Marin, but also about making history by winning Sunday's Winston West Spears Manufacturing 250 for the fourth consecutive year.
A win could also make a difference in Woodside's place in the season's point standings. With just two more races this season and a 68-point spread between 3rd and 5th place, there will be a determined battle for position in the final standings among the 3rd, 4th and 5th place contenders.
"We're coming to win races this weekend," affirmed Woodside. "We've had up and down luck over the past few events, but we know we're good at Mesa Marin. The REF team and I are confident that we've got the car for the track, and we know we've got what it takes to get the win."
Fans attending the October Classic can see Woodside in Friday's NASCAR Late Model event, Saturday's Southwest Series Terry Lumber 200 and Sunday's Winston West Spears Manufacturing 250.
Speedvision will televise the Spears Manufacturing 250 on a tape-delay basis at 6:00 p.m. PST on November 13.
