A Look at the NASCAR Elite Division, Featherlite Southwest Series Victory Circle Chassis 2003 Rookie-of-the-Year Standings
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 15, 2003) - The following is a glance at the NASCAR Elite Division, Featherlite Southwest Series Rookie class of 2003 heading into the United Power/Touchstone Energy "150" at Colorado National Speedway Saturday, August 16. This will be race 9 of 14 on the NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series schedule. After the race at Madera Speedway, JR Patton holds a 13-point lead over Thomas Martin for the Victory Circle Chassis Rookie-of-the-Year Award.
No. 1 - JR Patton
(No. 97 Las Cruces Motorsports Chevrolet), Las Cruces Motorsports. Last week's ranking: 1st. Patton finishes 17th at Madera Speedway July 26 but maintains his rookie point lead over Martin. Patton has completed 995 of 1052 laps contested this season and has started all eight events to date. Patton has three top ten finishes and has a Bud Pole Award to his credit this season.
No. 2 - Thomas Martin
(No. Sierra Mist Chevrolet), Penney Racing. Last week's ranking: 2nd. Martin finished 13th at Madera July 26 and maintains the 16th position in the overall point standings. In eight starts this season, Martin has one top ten finish and has completed 935 of 1052 contested.
No. 3 - Danny Burson
(No. 56 Great Western Electric Chevrolet), Burson Racing. Last week's ranking: 5th. Burson climbed two spots in the rookie standings and has moved into 18th in the overall standings after finishing 12th at Madera Speedway July 26. Burson has seven starts this season with one top five and three top ten performances.
No. 4 - Greg Voigt
(No. 09 Auto Pro Racing Engines Chevrolet), Voigt Racing. Last week's ranking: 4th. Voigt maintains his fourth place position in the rookie standings after an 18th place finish at Madera July 26. Voigt has seven starts this season and currently is 17th in the overall standings with one top five and one top ten finish.
No. 5 - Frank Deiny Jr.
(No. 70 Star Nursery.Com Chevrolet), Q Motorsports. Last week's ranking: 3rd. Deiny Failed to make the show at Madera Speedway July 26 after being involved in a qualifying race incident. Deiny falls two spots in the rookie race and drops to 19th in the overall standings. Deiny has started seven of eight races this season with his best finish of 5th coming at the season opener in Phoenix.
No. 6 - Kevin Vernon
(No. 51 Action Towing Chevrolet), Vernon Racing. Last week's ranking: 6th. Vernon did not qualify for the race at Madera July 26 and will likely run a partial schedule the rest of the season.
No. 7 - Nathan Thiesse
(No. 88 Honda Cars of Corona Pontiac), The Body Shop Racing. Last week's ranking: 7th. Thiesse did not attend the event at Madera Speedway July 26, but hopes to get his season back on track at CNS. Thiesse will make his first visit to CNS this weekend. Thiesse has started three races this season and has three top ten finishes.
No. 8 - Richard Johnson
(No. 47 Auto Glass Authority Chevrolet), Johnson Racing. Last week's ranking: 10th. Johnson failed to qualify for the race at Madera Speedway July 26 and will be making his first over visit to Colorado National Speedway this weekend.
No. 9 - Mike Price
(No. 3 AMI Metals Chevrolet), Price Racing. Last week's ranking: 9. Price did not attend the event at Madera Speedway July 26.
No. 10 - Chris Hines
(No. 96 Ironeagle Chevrolet) Pro Dyno Racing. Last Week's ranking: N/A. Hines qualified for his first race of 2003 at Mesa Marin June 28th and finished 16th. Hines has elected to withdraw form the 2003 rookie program and concentrate on building and enhancing his team for a run at the 2004 rookie title.

Victory Circle Chassis' offers a season ending bonus of $5,000 to the top finishing rookie at season ending banquet in December. Each rookie competitor earns rookie points for each race they start. No rookie points are awarded for races a rookie fails to qualify for. Points are awarded on a declining scale with the top finishing rookie receiving 10 points then 9,8.7 and so on. Each rookie will count their best 12 finishes of the 14 race schedule towards the 2003 Rookie-of-the-Year championship.
