BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (March 22, 2003) Dan Holtz had to battle back from one lap down to claim his first career NASCAR Elite Division, Featherlite Southwest Series victory Saturday night at Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif. after winning his second career Bud Pole Award. Holtz lost a lap for a stop and go penalty after changing right side tires midway through the Star Nursery.Com "200" in front of his hometrack fans.

Finishing second was Auggie Vidovich Jr. who has had great success at MMR in the past. Eric Holmes came home in third, with Victory Circle Rookie-of-the-Year contender Greg Voigt in fourth, and Todd Souza rounding out the top five finishers. The second five were lead by Nathan Thiesse of Brainerd, Minn. who started 29th after making his way into the race through the non-qualifiers race. Rounding out the top-ten finishers were David Gilliland, Eddy McKean, Thomas Martin, and Doug McCoun.

Auggie Vidovich Jr. assumes the point lead after two events. McKean stays in second place, with Craig Raudman climbing to third, Bryan Germone dropping to fourth, and Darrell LaMoure rounding out the top five.

The Featherlite Southwest Series takes one week off before returning to action on the tight 3/8 mile paved oval of Cajon Speedway in El Cajon, Calif. on Saturday, April 5 for race number three on the 14 race schedule.
