LAKESIDE, CA -- Auggie Vidovich, NASCAR Elite Division, Featherlite Southwest Series current point leader is set to make his third and final stop at Mesa Marin Raceway (Bakersfield, CA) this weekend for the LUCAS OIL 150 in conjunction with the 26th Annual OCTOBER CLASSIC featuring the NASCAR Winston West, West Coast Pro Trucks, Ultra Wheels Super Trucks, Street Stocks, Super Late Models and the Cal Spas Super Moto USA Series'.
"The OCTOBER CLASSIC at Mesa Marin is always a big draw and this year is no different. This race is very important to our team as we head into Phoenix at the end of the month," stated Auggie Vidovich. Vidovich loves the banking the track has to offer and always does well here. In March, Vidovich finished 2nd and in June he took the lead on lap 118 and was taken out on the final lap, final turn, in what was to be a controversial maneuver by another competitor. Vidovich collected up his spinning car and took the checkered flag with an 8th place finish.
Vidovich stopped by the high-banked 1/2-mile paved oval with turns banked 17 degrees and seven degrees banking in the straight-aways last week along with a handful of other NASCAR Winston West and Southwest Series drivers testing their cars the following day. The test went very well according to Vidovich Racing crew chief, Terry Henry.
Twenty-two year old Vidovich just back from the PHOENIX INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY 100 race, increased his championship lead by 9 points over the second place contender by holding on to the No. 59 WIDE WORLD OF MAPS Chevrolet which had a bad set of tires for the race and qualifying. Vidovich patiently stayed out on the mediocre tires awaiting a caution in the almost caution-free race finishing 15th. Although the finish is not what the team hoped for, it kept Vidovich up front proceeding into this weekend's race by 109 points.
The NASCAR Elite Division-Featherlite Southwest Series one-day show Saturday leads into the final race of the series season scheduled for Phoenix, AZ October 30 with the Winston Cup, Busch and Craftsman Truck series'.
With the competition stepping up for the final two races of the series in order to grab an invite to the upcoming NASCAR Toyota All-Star Show Down to be held at Irwindale on November 6-8, Vidovich is guaranteed a showing but is setting his sights on a championship finish for the No. 59 Creative Touch Interiors, CARQUEST, Ransom Brothers Lumber, No Fear, SOBE, SPY, Ron's Rear Ends, DPI, Sierra Brakes Chevrolet for 2003.
The LUCAS OIL 150 will be rebroadcast on FOX SPORTS NET October 27 - November 2. Check your local listings to verify broadcast date and time in your area. For more information on series leader Auggie Vidovich, www.vidovichracing.com.
