Stout Southwest Series Field Ready for Mesa Marin Classic

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. (October 11, 2004) Doug McCoun from Prunedale, Calif. leads all active NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest Series drivers with three wins on the high-banked half-mile oval that is Mesa Marin (Calif.) Raceway. This Saturday night McCoun is looking to add to that mark and deliver Clarence Broussard his first win as a car owner. McCoun will have to hold off championship hopefuls Jim Pettit II also from Prunedale and Craig Raudman of Bakersfield, Calif. as those two are locked in a tight title fight with Pettit on top by a mere ten point margin heading into race twelve of the 14-race championship series.

While Pettit and Raudman dual for series supremacy, the picture for the rest of the top five is not as clear. With the top five drivers mathematically still alive for the championship, Burney Lamar, Eric Holmes, and Eddy McKean look to upstage the Pettit and Raudman and stake out their own piece of the championship headline. Lamar trials teammate Raudman by 112 points with Holmes 89 points in back of Lamar with McKean just 19 points behind Holmes.

With the top five locked in their own battles, former track champion Dan Holtz from Pacific Palisades, Calif. eyes his second career triumph at his home track.

The AutoZone Southwest Series Ford Motorcraft "150" is set to take the green flag at 8:00 p.m. PST this Saturday, October 16 in front of a national television audience with the event being broadcast live on HDNet. Check local cable and satellite listing for availability in your area.
