NASCAR and Irwindale Speedway Announce Date Change for Southwest Series Event
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -The Stock Building Supply 150 featuring the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest Series at Irwindale (CA) Speedway has been rescheduled from Saturday, June 17, to Saturday, August 12, in order to accommodate the second annual Stock Building Supply home show at the race track.
Stock Building Supply and Rip Michels Racing Inc. will once again join forces and present the Stock Building Supply-150 and Irwindale Home Improvement Show at Irwindale Speedway on August 12th. This will be the second time this dual event has been hosted at the countries premier short track in Southern California.
"Last year was extremely successful with a close to capacity crowd," stated Rick Smith Manager of Motorsports Operations for Stock Building Supply. "We had 25 of the nation's best manufactures and distributors of building supplies along with the largest power tool companies displaying their latest products. This year we plan on expanding the Home Improvement Show even larger with more vendors and larger displays. All of this along with a full racing program, including the Southwest Series, it becomes a great event to attend".
Irwindale Speedway has been a regular stop on the Southwest Series schedule since its inception in 1999 where Bryan Germone holds the qualifying record on the ultra-smooth fast half-mile speedway with a quick lap of 17.363 seconds/103.669 mph.
Rip Michels who enters his thrid year as a Southwest Series regular is the all-time winingest driver at Irwindale Speedway with over fifty career victories in Late Model and Modified racing action. David Gilliland leads all drivers with three wins at Irwindale in Southwest Series competition, while Burney Lamar and M.K. Kanke have two wins apiece. Auggie Vidovich scored the biggest win of his career at Irwindale Speedway by claiming the 3rd annual NASCAR Toyota Allstar Showdown last November. This year's event will be the 14th Southwest Series race staged at Irwindale Speedway since Kurt Busch won the first race in his championship season of 1999.
