David Gilliland won his first Series race by taking the K&N Filters 150 at Irwindale Speedway in Irwindale, Calif. Gilliland, the son of former Winston West Series champion Butch Gilliland, is the sixth winner in the first six races this season.

Goodyear is the sole tire provider for this series.

Veteran M.K. Kanke finished second, Zach Niessner took third, rookie Greg Voigt was fourth and Doug McCoun finished fifth. Kanke's finish drew him within 15 points of leader Eddy McKean in the championship standings.

Gilliland's average speed was 70.866 mph. His margin of victory was .480 of a second.

John Baker, a veteran racer from Tucson, Ariz., won the Bud Pole Award. It was his first Series pole. Sadly, Baker suffered fatal injuries in a crash on the 36th lap of the 150-lap event.
