Pettit Peaks in Colorado

ERIE, Colo. (August 21, 2004) Jim Pettit II had a point to prove Saturday night and collected his third NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest victory of the season by taking a .103 second victory over David Gilliland at Colorado National (CO) Speedway. Eddy McKean finished third with Kevin Clark and Eric Holmes rounding out the top five finishers.

Pettit took the lead on lap 67 and never looked back but had to hold off several late race charges by Jeff Jefferson and Gilliland. Pettit also took over the point's lead by 25 markers over Craig Raudman who finished 12th. Burney Lamar still holds down the third spot in the standings after finishing 15th. Holmes and McKean round out the top five in the standings after ten of 14 races this season.

Holmes scored his second career Bud Pole Award touring the 3/8-mile paved oval to pace 29 drivers in qualifying. Nick Joanides earned the PowerAde Power Move-of-the-Race for improving the most positions in the event (25th to 8th) and Danny Burson earned the Featherlite Award for improving the most positions from the previous race (23rd to 7th).
