Erie, Colo. (August, 18, 2001) Travis Clark of Littleton, Colo. used home field advantage to score his first career Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring Bud Pole Award with a time of 16.076/83.976 MPH at his home track of the 3/8-mile Colorado National Speedway in Erie, Colo. Clark bested the series regulars Jon Nelson, Auggie Vidovich Jr., and Darrell LaMoure to take the top spot in qualifying. Rounding out the top five in qualifying was Burney Lamar in fifth. The second five saw Nick Joanides lead Jim Pettit II, Eddie McKean, Steve Smith, and leading Bud Pole winner Craig Raudman with the tenth quick time. Darrell LaMoure took home the hardware in the 4-lap Trophy Dash.

Clark will lead the field of 26 to the green in the United Power/Touchstone Energy "150" that will include two transfers from the 15-lap 12-car Non-Qualifiers race. Greg Pursley of Canyon Country struggled in qualifying and had to use provisional to make the show along with Bob Lyon, Mike Ledbetter, and Hometown competitor Greg Fowler.
