The McKean Kronicles Part II

ERIE, Colo. (June 5, 2004, 5:30 pm MST) Eddy McKean did not have the kind of qualifying run he needed at Colorado National Speedway Saturday afternoon. With 31 competitors in town for the second race of the season for the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest Series, Eddy needed a good lap if only for the confidence in the new car, but rolling off as the 21st qualifier Eddy could only manage a lap of 16.565 around the 3/8-mile paved oval.

The Midwest Series has a provisional for the Southwest Series in this event and that is the good news. The bad news is Eddy will have to race the 20-lap non-qualifiers race in order to take it. The Midwest Series issues the provisional starting positions after the non-qualifiers race. So Eddy will have to race his way in.

"We have just been chasing this new car all day," McKean said. "We tested the car real well, but we have just struggled. Well bring the car back to the pits and go back to work and see if we can get it closer. In this level of racing, if you are off just a bit, it is too much."

The McKean Racing crew is busily working on the car as a large cloud has cooled the racetrack after the temperature has been in the upper 80's all day. The next update will go out after the non-qualifiers race.
