Minersville, PA - (March 23, 2001) - Jeff Strunk of Bethel, PA looks to the 2001 season at Big Diamond Raceway as his opportunity to regain the track NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Modified championship crown which he wore for four straight years, 1994 through 1997. Big Diamond Raceway opens for its 30th racing season on Sunday afternoon, April 1. Racing is scheduled to get underway at 2 PM featuring the NASCAR WRS Modifieds, NASCAR ShorTrack Sportsman and NASCAR Roadrunners. "I am looking forward to the upcoming season at Big Diamond," shared Jeff Strunk last weekend. "Last season wasn't my best at the track, but our last month of the season was super. I hope we will be able to carry that over into this season." Strunk returns behind the wheel of the #W9 Modifieds out of the K. L. Harring Motorsports racing stables. Kenworth and Cummins return with Motor Truck Equipment Company as the sponsors of the team's Gechter-powered, Olsen cars. "We have a very busy season with over 80 races scheduled and with a new, younger, energetic crew," elaborated Strunk. "I hope to play off them from my own energy. The excitement level is high in the shop and we hope the early races of this year are an indication of the whole year." The pressure has been heavy on Strunk and the Harring Motorsports team at Big Diamond as well as Grandview Speedway in recent years. With their sponsors, Kenworth, Cummins and Motor Truck Equipment Company, also sponsoring the Pennsylvania Dual Track Modified Point Championships, they were really under the microscope of not just the fans and competitors but from themselves to do their best for their sponsors as well. Jeff and the entire Harring Motorsports Team stepped up and captured the Dual Track championship both years in which Kenworth and Cummins were involved and also earned the coveted Grandview Speedway track championship last season. But now, with that business taken care of, Jeff is ready to go back after the Big Diamond crown in 2001. "I hope to grab my fifth title at Big D," stated Strunk, "but I am also looking to win the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Regional title." Following the April 1 season opener, Big Diamond Raceway has another Sunday afternoon show slated for April 8 featuring the Modifieds, Sportsman and Roadrunners. The track remains dark for the Easter weekend before shifting to a weekly Friday night format on April 20 for the remainder of the year with an 8 PM starting time.
