Irwindale, Calif. - - For many fans, the 2001 racing season at Irwindale Speedway just can't get started soon enough. And that's for a season that is starting out a full three weekends earlier than the traditional last Saturday of March. Well, Irwindale Speedway fans can take heart and get a head start on the season on Saturday, February 24 and Sunday, 25 when the 2001 "Spring Training" Days will take place at the Speedway.

Admission and parking for this special event is free to the public. "This is our way of telling our fans how much we appreciate them," said Bob DeFazio, the Speedway's VP/COO. "We want everyone to come out and reacquaint themselves with the track and the great drivers before the season starts in March."

The track gates will open to the public at noon each day with an open invitation for fans to bring their families out for a look at the racers who will be putting on the show at Irwindale Speedway during the 2001 competition year. The show will go on until 9 p.m. on Saturday night and until 7 p.m. on Sunday

On Saturday, February 24, all of the Irwindale's regular weekly NASCAR divisions will be on track. That group includes Super Late Models, Late Models, Grand American Modifieds, Super Stocks, Modified 4's (which used to be called the Mini-Stocks), and Legend Cars.

On the 25th, all of Irwindale's regular touring series divisions will be on track "shaking out the cobwebs" and getting ready for a brand spanking new year of competition. Both days will bring the now three year-old track back to life with the exciting, up close and personal sights and sounds of short track oval racing.

Remember: Irwindale's regular weekly racing season gets into high gear early this year on March 17. That's when the mighty NASCAR Super Late Models get into action with a 100-lap opener. Also on that evening's bill will be the Grand American Modifieds and the Super Stocks. The NASCAR Late Models will fire off on March 24 and the Modified 4's will start their 2001 season on April 7.
