NASCAR WHELEN SOUTHERN MODIFIED TOUR TO RUN TWIN FEATURE RACES AT ACE SPEEDWAY, MONDAY, SEPT. 5

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 17, 2005) -- When the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour arrived for its first event at Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, N.C., teams and drivers were greeted by heavy rains. The Tour packed up and left in April, but will return to Ace for a special twin feature event on Monday, Sept. 5. The Whelen Southern Modified Tour will compete in two 100-lap races and both events will award full points towards the Tour championship.

This doubleheader comes close on the heels of the Sept. 3 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, which will be a combination race with the Whelen Southern Modified Tour. After three points races in three days, the Whelen Southern Modified Tour heads to Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, N.C. for a 150-lap race Sept. 10.

Drivers will qualify for the first of the two 100-lap races through NASCAR's regular Bud Pole qualifying time trials. Drivers in the first race will automatically transfer to the next race. The results of the first race will then be used to determine the lineup for the second race, including a re-draw of the top 6, 8 or 10 positions.
