So many NASCAR stars, past and present, have raced at this track with this facility being the home track of Jeff and Ward Burton, NASCAR Winston Cup drivers. There will be many new drivers competing in this event who have never raced at this track. A close Wireway/Husky Corp. Rookie-of-the-Year Program is developing between Jody Lavender, Richie Beasley, Charlie Bradberry, Roger Parker, Wayne Bowen, Michael Britt, Jeff Myers and Chris Fontaine. Freddie Query wasted little time in 1998 dominating the race. Starting from the outside front row position, he took the lead on lap one and led the entire 200 laps with Billy Bigley Jr. in hot pursuit the entire race after starting third on the grid. Bud Pole winner Derrick Gilchrist exited the event on lap seven when the engine in his car expired. <pre> Stats: 200-Lap Race South Boston Speedway Top 10: Bud Pole: Derrick Gilchrist 1. (1) This will be the Gatorade All Pro Series, NASCAR Touring first appearance at this facility in the new millennium.
(2) The series ran here six times in the 90's with six different drivers winning Bud Pole Starts and five drivers winning those events. Freddie Query was the only double winner with stops in victory lane in 1994 and 1998.
(3) No former race winner is competing with the series in 2001 which meaning a new name will be in victory lane.
(4) Wayne Anderson and Billy Bigley Jr. have won Bud Pole starts at South Boston, Bigley in 1995 and Anderson in 1996. Both drivers have entered this event.
