Fontaine Takes 28th in First Hills Bros. All Pro Race of 2002
Chris Fontaine and the Advance Auto Parts/Discount Auto Parts/Suntrust #46 took a 28th place finish in the first Hills Bros. All Pro NASCAR Touring race of the 2002 season on March 9 at South Boston Speedway, VA.
Chris had qualified in the 30 th spot to start the race, and he laid back for the first part of the race to let attrition take its toll on the field. The CJF Racing pit crew took advantage of cautions that came out several times during the race to make adjustments to the car.
After the first caution of the race on the second lap, Chris was lined up in the 32 spot for the restart. Two laps later, another accident took several cars out, and Chris restarted in the 28 th position.
Twenty laps later, another accident brought out the yellow, and on the restart, Chris was lined up in 27th.
On lap number 80, the #46 began smoking, and Chris had to coast onto the inside edge of the track in the backstretch, bringing out the caution. The engine had backfired and the carburator caught on fire, and the safety crew put it out. The CJF Racing team took the car to the pit for repairs, even as it began to rain, ending the race early.
The next race for the CJF Racing team will be at Greenville-Pickens Speedway on April 27.
