(Woodstock, GA) Justin Wakefield produced his third top 10 and first top-5 finish of the season in the NASCAR Kodak Southeast Series this past Wednesday night (July 2) at Ocala Speedway (Ocala, FL) for the Victory Junction 150. Wakefield had his best qualifying effort of the season by qualifying 5th out of the 21 car field and rounded the night off by finishing his #98 Ford Taurus in 2nd, setting his best finish of the season.
"The second place finish at Ocala feels great, and I am very proud of what this team is accomplishing thus far this season," states Justin. "We got hung out to dry in the beginning, but we came up to second behind Jeff Fultz. We had a good car, but we had nothing for Jeff. All in all, it was a great night of racing for Carswell Motorsports, and we are aiming to stay competitive and finish in the top -10 in points," continued Wakefield.
Wakefield's 2nd place finish is the Georgia native's second straight top-10 finish and moves the young rookie driving sensation into 7th in the NASCAR Southeast Kodak Series points chase. Justin is currently 3rd in the highly competitive Victory Circle Chassis "Rookie of the Year" points battle, just 3 points out of first place. Justin's 2nd place finished earned him the "Victory Lane Chassis Rookie of the Race" award.
"The competition for the Victory Circle Chassis Rookie of the Year award is very tough," said Justin. "The other three guys are some hot rods and have loads of asphalt experience. It is good to have tough competition, because it makes me a better driver as well. As long as we put forth our best effort, then the rest will fall into place," concluded Wakefield.
Carswell Motorsports will be back in NASCAR sanctioned competition this weekend at the 1/4 mile oval of Huntsville Speedway (Huntsville, AL) for "Thunder by the River 150."
Carswell Motorsports is based out of Woodstock, GA and is owned by Jake Carswell also of Woodstock. Leading the race day charge on pit road is multi-time former NASCAR All Pro Series champion and NASCAR Winston Cup winner, Jody Ridley.
