SPARTA, KY. (Sept. 17, 2004) - The trail of domination that Jeff Fultz has been on this year continued on Friday night at Kentucky Motor Speedway. Fultz cruised to the pole position for Saturday night's V-Taps 300 at the 1.5-mile oval at a speed of 156.318 mph to edge second-place starter Erik Darnell.

It was a mirror image of how the season has gone so far as Fultz leads the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southeast Series point standings by 54 markers over Darnell.

"This means a whole lot to me because this is my home track," said Fultz, a native of nearby Cincinnati, Ohio. "I've always qualified real well here, but this is my first pole and it means a lot to me. This is cool. We were a fifth- or sixth-place car in practice, but the guys on this team went to work and we were able to grab the pole."

Ray Skillman qualified third, Robert Richardson fourth and J.R. Norris was fifth. Rounding out the Top-10 were Gary Helton, Chris Davidson, Jason Hogan, Greg Pope and Joseph Miller.

Fultz can claim his second career Southeast Series championship Saturday night at Kentucky if he wins the race and Darnell finishes 15th or worse.
