Chris Fontaine crossed the finish line in the Discount Auto Parts/Suntrust #46 to take 25th in last Saturday's NASCAR All Pro race at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in front of a crowd estimated at 12,000. It was his best All Pro finish to date. The finish moves him up 3 spots in the 2001 NASCAR All Pro points race to 30th. Chris qualified the car in 32nd position to start the race. At the drop of the green flag, Chris held his position at the back of the pack and avoided an accident on lap two. The race restarted on lap 10.

Chris was in hot pursit of the car in front of him for the next seven laps until a spun car brought out the second caution. After the restart, on lap 29, Chris overcame the car ahead of him on the outside in turn four and passed him on the front straight. Soon after, race leader Bill Bigley passed the #46. A few laps later Chris overcame and passed a slower car that was having problems and had to pit.On lap 49 Chris lapped one of the slower cars, and on lap 50 the second place car of Wayne Anderson caught Chris and went by him. Chris followed Wayne for several laps before the field caught up to him.

On lap 79 the race leaders caught Chris again to put him two laps down.On lap 83 another caution came out, allowing for pit stops, and Chris brought the #46 in to get a new set of tires. On the restart, Chris was in 25th position. He was passed by one car, but on the new tires he soon overcame and passed another.Several laps later another caution came out, and Chris brought the #46 in for adjustments.A few laps after the restart Chris caught and passed a couple of cars before Bigley and the other leaders passed him again to put him three laps down. Six laps later a caution came out for a wreck in turn three, allowing for a pit stop.On the restart, Chris was lined up 24th of 25 cars still in the race. On the next lap, one car got by him, and Chris followed the field for about 20 laps until he was slowed down by a spin on the front straight, allowing the race leaders to make up ground. Bigley and

Anderson caught Chris one lap later to put him four laps down.Chris continued to follow the field and Bigley and Anderson continued their charge, passing Chris again about lap 150, putting him 5 laps down. Several laps later, the #46 was hooking up and Chris began passing several slower cars on the outside before another caution came out. On the restart, Chris continued following the field, until his tires got warmed up again and he passed one car in the final laps of the race and was on the heels of another before the checkered flag fell.At the end of the race, Chris had achieved the goal for the race, to finish, and had moved up 7 positions from his 32nd place start to 25th, and completed 193 laps, seven laps down from the winner Wayne Anderson. The finish puts Chris in 30th spot in the 2001 NASCAR All Pro points with 262, only eight points from 29th.Race #5 of the NASCAR All Pro 2001 season will be next Saturday, May 12 at Birminghan Int'l Raceway in Birmingham, AL.
