SOUTH BOSTON, VA. -- The NASCAR Autozone Elite Southeast Series will invade South Boston Speedway when America's Hometown Track returns to racing action on Saturday night, May 27 for the running of the SoBo Salute to Armed Forces 150.
The competitors in the NASCAR Autozone Elite Southeast Series will highlight the Salute to Armed Forces Night race program, which will kick off the Memorial Day Weekend. Racing action will get the green flag at 7 p.m.
Donnie Allison will be on hand at South Boston Speedway on Saturday from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Allison will be available to sign his new book, "As I Recall." The book is loaded with many interesting stories beginning with the 1979 Daytona 500. And, each of the stories is written as Allison recalls them.
In the book, Allison tells in his words about his experience racing at Indy for A.J. Foyt, finishing in fourth and sixth place, two years in a row, and being named Rookie of the Year in 1970, while coming back to the World 600 in Charlotte and winning it.
"Read the book, you'll love it," Allison said. "I tell it like it is!"
In addition to the NASCAR Autozone Elite Southeast Series event, other races planned on Saturday, May 27, include a 110-lap event for the drivers in the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division, a 50-lap shootout for the competitors in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and a 50 lap event for the touring Allison Legacy Series.
Advanced tickets are on sale now at the speedway office for the discounted price of $10. Race day tickets will be $15. In addition for the May 27th event, all military personnel will be admitted for FREE with their military ID's. Children 9 and under are always admitted free at SoBo.
