CHARLOTTE, N.C. (April 9, 1998)

Donnie Richeson has been named crew chief for the No. 30 Slim Jim NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division team and driver Mike Cope, replacing Todd Lohse. He will join the team at this weekend's Galaxy Foods 300 at Hickory Motor Speedway.

Richeson started this season as crew chief for his brother-in-law Brett Bodine in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, but was released prior to the PRIMESTAR 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway in March.

"Since leaving Brett's team I've had some time to think about what I wanted in racing," Richeson said. "I decided there were three main things I was looking for: A multi-car team, an organization with a winning tradition and to be able to spend more time with my family. I've found all of that with Team 34 Racing."

"Todd did a good job for us," Team 34 Racing co-owner Frank Cicci said. "But we had a young crew chief working with a rookie driver and when you get an opportunity to get someone with the knowledge, experience and background of a Donnie Richeson you have to seize it."

Richeson, a native of Owensboro, Ky., has worked with Alan Kulwicki, Darrell Waltrip, Kyle Petty and Gary Nelson at Team SABCO and Jeff Burton at the Stavola Brothers team. Richeson and Bodine teamed together for three Bud Poles and six top-five finishes, including two second-place finishes.
