1997 Review: The race was dominated by BellSouth Chevrolet driver Steven Christian. In Bud Pole qualifying Raleigh, N.C.'s Derrick Gilchrist set a new track record and led the first 10 laps. Christian took over on lap 11 and was never headed. Due to a caution on lap 192, that extended until lap 203, Christian had to survive a green-white-checkered shootout to notch the victory. Hank Parker, Jr., Mike Harmon, Ron Young and Larry Raines rounded out the top five. Thirteen cars finished on the lead lap and there were 23 cars running at the end of the race.
